If you are looking to protect your stone paving slabs or stone wall without the appearance of a sealed finish but want all the benefits of a sealed surface then a stone impregnator is what you are looking for. The stone surface, once a clear impregnator is applied, becomes protected against water, oil and contaminates but still allows the stone to breath. This allows moisture within the stone to escape from the stone but does not allow water to be absorbed by the stone.
The appearance of the stone will not be changes by the impregnator rather like a hidden sealant.
Most types of stone can have an impregnator applied. The only ones that cannot have an impregnator applied are those that have a sealer already applied to the surface as the impregnators will not be allowed to be absorbed into the stone surface.
Types of stone that are typically treated with a stone impregnator include:
- Stone fireplaces, especially the hearth where black soot and coal will stain the stone.
- House walls, Makes brick and stone walls waterproof. Giving protection epecially to splash areas such as the brick under the damp proof coarse on a house where flaking of the brick takes place or are splashed with salts.
- Stone furniture, statues, Troughs etc.
- Limestone
- Sandstone
- Travertine
- Granite worksurfaces
